Does Botox cure wrinkles?
Botox won't actually erase or “cure” wrinkles. It works by relaxing the muscles in the face and therefore preventing the facial muscles from contracting and creating or emphasizing deep, existing creases like frown lines, smile lines or forehead tension lines.
Because Botox relaxes or paralyzes the muscles in the face it can prevent wrinkles. Botox essentially restricts the movement of facial muscles, meaning while the Botox is effective, the muscle will stop moving and therefore stop creating new wrinkles.
Are there negative drawbacks associated with Botox?
Aside from rare allergic reactions to Botox, the most common side effect or complaint is incorrect dosage or incorrect injection of the product. The subsequent result is over-paralysis or the incorrect muscle being paralyzed. This can create facial problems like a sagging cheek, numbness or a drooping eye.
However, user or doctor-error is rare and can be avoided by using a doctor and clinic that is reputable, well-recommended and properly licensed.
Where can Botox be used?
Typically, Botox is used in the upper face over the forehead and eye area. It's used most often on forehead tension lines, crow's feet, eye wrinkles and furrowed brows. While Botox can be used around the mouth area, it's not recommended because it can affect the patient's ability to smile, open their mouth, frown and even speak.
What happens after you are injected with Botox?
Many patients experience a mild headache and small, minor bruising around the area of the injection site. Both of these effects will typically go away within a few hours. The Botox will then begin to be effective within 3 to 10 days after the injection.
Is Botox long-lasting?
When it comes to fighting wrinkles, Botox is the most effective treatment course available. However, it does not last forever. Botox will usually last for approximately 4 to 5 months. Most people start with three treatments per year, but then eventually reduce those to two treatments per year.
