Anti-Wrinkle Face Cream: What Ingredients Are in Your Anti-Wrinkle Cream and on Your Face?

If you wear an anti-wrinkle face cream every day, you should know what you're putting on your face every day. So, before you buy your next wrinkle cream, keep reading for a rundown of common and basic ingredients found in most anti-wrinkle face creams and products.

Retinol

Retinol is derived from Vitamin A and is a powerful antioxidant, meaning it helps to neutralize free radicals, which can degrade cellular structure and cause wrinkles. If you're pregnant or planning a pregnancy, avoid products with Retinol as the increased doses of Vitamin A have been linked to birth defects.

Hydroxy Acids

This grouping refers to Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Poly Hydroxy Acids and Beta Hydroxy Acids. These are all synthetic acid compounds that act as exfoliants, removing dead cells and skin to give the skin a fresher, younger look. If you're planning to go out in the sun when using hydroxy acid products, remember to use sunscreen as hydroxy acids can reduce your skin's defenses against sun damage.

Copper Peptides

Most often found in high-end anti-wrinkle face cream products, copper peptides are used to assist wound healing, but they can also stimulate collagen growth and the efforts of other combined antioxidant ingredients.

Coenzyme Q10

Coenzyme Q10 serves two purposes – to normalize cell energy reduction and protect against sun damage. It's typically used in small doses in eye wrinkle creams. Multiple studies have shown no side effects associated with Coenzyme Q10.

Green and White Tea Extracts

Tea extracts are used in face creams because of their anti-inflammatory abilities and high antioxidant content. They're most commonly found in eye creams.

Kinetin

Kinetin, a plant derivative, can smooth out uneven skin tones and even improve fine lines and wrinkles by helping the skin stay hydrated and improving collagen production. It can be found in higher-quality anti-wrinkle face cream products. Users with sensitive skin should test this product on a patch of skin before applying it to the full face as it can sometimes cause skin irritation.
